Chalk and Tar

Black began as a quiet photograph taken in Sevenoaks during the very first Covid lockdown, up close, the surface reveals the history of its making. It has been broken, remade, and somehow made whole again. The textures are not just visual—they're tactile, the result of a process I've spent over a year developing. Each piece in this collection begins with handmade, cotton-based paper, treated with emulsions and layered textures designed to deepen the image and draw the viewer closer.

These treatments infuse the work with a physical presence, merging photographic memory with material form. No two pieces are ever the same. Black is as much about what is seen as what is felt: the trace of time, the ghost of a moment, the quiet resilience of place.

Framed in deep matte black using Lion moulding, this piece stands as a meditation on memory, process, and the poetics of stillness.

The frame does not include glass, as the artwork presents best without it and is safer to ship.
